National Programme for Dairy Development

The specific objectives of the NPDD havebeen laid out by the DAHD&F which includes the following:
(i) To create and strengthen infrastructure for production of quality milk including cold chain infrastructure linking farmers and consumers.
(ii) To create and strengthen infrastructure for procurement, processing and marketing of milk.
(iii) To create training infrastructure for training of dairy farmers.
(iv) To strengthen Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCS)/ Producers Companies (PC) at the village level.
(v) To increase milk production by providing technical input services like cattle-feed and mineral mixture.
(vi) To assist in the rehabilitation of poten-tially viable milk federations/ unions. Under the National Programme for Dairy Development for East Khasi Hills District, the Union has received assistance for upgrading the processing capacity of Dairy Plant from 10 TLPD to 50 TLPD under 90:10 cost sharing pattern. Also, the project envisages in improving the procurement facilities by installing bulk milk coolers with electronic testing equipments at the Milk Collection Centres and providing transport vehicles for transporting milk from the Collection Centres to the Central Dairy Plant. The project aims to provide assistance to 21 DCSs in the project area during the project period.
